Sizing Tips for Kids

  • Leave growing room. Aim for about a thumb's width (roughly 0.5–1 cm) between the longest toe and the end of the shoe.
  • Measure both feet. Kids' feet grow in spurts and are often different sizes — always fit the larger foot.
  • Re-check every season. Young feet can grow a half size or more in a few months, so re-measure before each new pair.
  • Size restart. Kids' sizing runs independently of adult sizes — a Big Kid 7 is smaller than a Men's 7.

How to Measure

Follow these steps for accurate foot and body measurements, then match them to the charts.

Foot Length

  1. Place a sheet of paper against a wall. Stand on it with your heel touching the wall and your weight evenly distributed on both feet.
  2. Mark your longest toe. Have someone mark the tip of your longest toe on the paper (or lean forward and mark it yourself).
  3. Measure the distance. Use a ruler or tape measure to find the distance from the edge of the paper (heel line) to the toe mark, in centimeters.
  4. Match to the chart. Use the JPN (cm) column in the shoe tables to find your size. Measure both feet and fit the larger one.

Foot Width

  1. Trace or wrap. With your foot flat on paper, trace around it — or wrap a soft tape measure around the widest part of your foot (the ball).
  2. Measure at the widest point. For a tracing, measure straight across the widest part of the outline; for the tape method, read the circumference.
  3. Check the width category. Compare your result against the Fit & Width Guide to find your width mark, from Narrowest (N) to Widest (4E).

Body Measurements (Apparel)

  1. Bust / Chest. With arms relaxed at your sides, measure under your arms around the fullest part of your bust/chest.
  2. Waist. While keeping the tape comfortably loose, measure around your natural waistline — the smallest part of your waist.
  3. Hips. Standing with legs together, measure around the fullest part of your hips.
  4. Inseam. Measure the inside length of your leg from the crotch to the bottom of your ankle.
  5. Neck & Sleeve. For neck, measure around the base where a collar sits. For sleeve length, start at the center back of the neck, pass over the shoulder and elbow, and end at the wrist.

Measuring Tips

  • Measure feet at the end of the day, when they are at their largest.
  • Wear the socks you plan to pair with the shoes while measuring.
  • Stand while measuring — seated measurements underestimate foot length.
  • If you fall between sizes, choose the larger size for comfort on the trail.

Unisex Sizing

Unisex sizing runs as men's sizing. Women should select a size and a half smaller than their normal US Women's sizing — for example, Unisex Size 7 equals Men's Size 7 and Women's Size 8.5.

Fit Guidance

  • True to size. Start with your regular US size — the charts above reflect the brand's official conversions.
  • Hiking socks count. Try shoes on with the socks you'll actually wear on the trail; thicker socks may call for a half size up.
  • Toes on descents. Allow a little toe room — your feet push forward on downhill stretches, and jammed toes are the most common fit complaint.
  • Heel hold. A properly fitted shoe locks the heel in place without pinching across the forefoot.
  • Break-in. Leather and suede uppers soften with wear, but the out-of-the-box length should already feel right.
